Climate Network is a coalition of civil society organisations in Türkiye working collaboratively to address the climate crisis with an approach that is grounded in the principle of climate justice. The Network’s core objective is to contribute to the development of science-based, realistic national climate targets and policies that are in line with keeping global average temperature increase limited to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while building resilience to climate impacts.
The Climate Network’s areas of work include development of policies and strategies, as well as advocacy and communication activities, related but not limited to the following topics:
- Enhancing and implementing national climate policy and legislation;
- Transforming emissions-intensive sectors, especially energy;
- Engaging in international climate negotiations and diplomacy;
- Promoting just transition frameworks;
- Advancing climate adaptation and resilience.
Climate Network operates without endorsing any ideology, political party, or belief system and prioritises public interests over individual or corporate interests. Through a rights and justice-based, inclusive, transparent, participatory, and accountable approach, it aims to function as a credible source of information.
The Climate Network,
- Upholds the interests of society and the planet, nature, and all living beings. In this regard, it prioritises protecting ecosystem integrity.
- Does not endorse any ideology, political party, or belief system. It prioritises the public interest over individual or institutional interests.
- Favours solidarity over competition and conflict.
- Does not engage in cooperation or partnerships with private sector entities operating in the fossil fuel sector, fossil fuel–based energy generation, metallic mining employing heap leaching methods, the nuclear industry, or the defence industry. Furthermore, in line with fundamental ethical values, it seeks to create processes and environments free from racist, sexist, and all forms of discriminatory attitudes and discourse.
- Operates in a participatory, transparent, and accountable manner.
- Adheres strictly to the principle of non-violence in all actions and activities, prioritising a conciliatory approach and constructive language.
- Forms its views on a scientific basis and actively combats misinformation. It aims to serve as a reliable, impartial source of information and to promote the use of a common language and terminology.
- Conducts its work through a rights and justice-based approach, prioritising climate justice.
New membership candidates must be nominated by at least two existing members and must submit a letter of intent. The Ethics Committee assesses whether the applicant meets the membership criteria; the application is subsequently reviewed at the Network’s monthly General Assembly meetings. New members are admitted by a two-thirds majority vote at the monthly General Assembly meetings.
